Description

Brick and Patio Cleaner for Cement and Mortar Stains

Building work almost always leaves its mark. Mortar droppings set on brickwork, cement smears dry on new paving and white efflorescence creeps across walls. Ordinary cleaners won’t shift any of these. Larsen Brick & Patio Cleaner is an acid-based cleaner that dissolves cement and mortar, so stains lift away with a scrub and a rinse.

Ideal for Finishing New Builds and Paving

Builders and landscapers use it for the final clean-down before handover. Meanwhile, homeowners use it to tidy up after a DIY patio or pointing job. Either way, it’s an affordable way to get a clean, professional finish.

What It Removes

  • Cement stains and smears
  • Mortar droppings and spillages
  • Minor efflorescence (white salt deposits)
  • Lime bloom on concrete and masonry
  • Ingrained dirt on brickwork and blockwork

How to Use Brick and Patio Cleaner

First, brush off or scrape away any large lumps of mortar. Next, mask or cover nearby areas, such as metalwork, glass, painted surfaces and plants, to protect them from splashes and run-off. Then soak the surface thoroughly with water. This is important, as it stops the stone or brick absorbing too much acid.

Now dilute the cleaner. For general use, mix one part cleaner to three parts water. For stubborn stains, use it neat. Always add the cleaner to the water, never the other way around, and use a plastic container.

Apply the cleaner with a brush and scrub the stained areas. Finally, rinse thoroughly with plenty of clean water. Don’t let the cleaner dry on the surface. For heavy staining, repeat as needed.

Always Test First

Test on a small, hidden area before cleaning the whole surface. Some materials react differently to acid cleaners, so a quick test avoids any nasty surprises.

Which Surfaces Is It Suitable For?

It’s suitable for clay bricks, brick pavers, blockwork and concrete paving. However, never use it on acid-sensitive materials such as limestone, marble or terrazzo, as the acid will damage them. If you’re unsure about your surface, especially natural stone, contact us before you start.

Safety First

This cleaner contains hydrochloric acid and can cause severe skin burns and eye damage. Always wear gloves, goggles and protective clothing. Use it outdoors only, and keep children and pets away from the area. Never mix it with other chemicals.

Finish the Job Properly

Once your paving is clean and dry, seal it to protect the finish. For block paving, use Stontex Paver Plus. Our team in Letterkenny can help you choose the right sealer for your surface. See our whole selection HERE.

FAQs

Do I need to dilute it?
For general cleaning, yes. Mix one part cleaner to three parts water. For stubborn cement or mortar stains, you can use it neat. Always add the cleaner to the water, not water to the cleaner.

How much area will 5L cover?
Used neat, one litre cleans roughly 10m², so a 5L bottle covers around 50m². Diluted for general use, it goes considerably further.

Why do I need to wet the surface first?
Soaking the surface with water stops the brick or paving absorbing too much acid. This protects the material and helps the cleaner work on the stain instead.

Can I use it on natural stone?
Never use it on limestone, marble or terrazzo, as the acid will damage them. For other natural stone, such as sandstone, contact us before use and always test on a hidden area first.

Will it remove white marks from new brickwork?
Yes, it removes minor efflorescence and lime bloom. These white deposits are common on new brickwork and concrete as salts work their way to the surface.

Is it safe to use?
It’s safe when used correctly, but it is a strong acid. Wear gloves, goggles and protective clothing, work outdoors only, and keep children and pets away. If it touches your skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
