A Solid Backless Garden Bench That Goes Anywhere

Not every bench needs a back. This handmade 5.5ft backless garden bench keeps things simple — a strong, flat seat on a solid timber frame. No backrest means it slots into spots a standard bench won’t fit. Against a wall, under a window, tucked beside a raised bed, or pulled up to a picnic table — it works in all of them.

At 167cm wide, it seats 2–3 people comfortably. The clean profile makes it easy to move around the garden as the season changes too.

Handmade from Solid Pressure Treated Timber

Each bench is built by hand from solid wood. The joints are tight, the legs are sturdy, and the seat sits level without rocking. You’ll feel the difference compared to anything flat-packed — this is proper outdoor furniture, built to last.

The timber is pressure treated before it leaves us. That gives it solid protection against rot and damp from day one. For the best long-term results, apply outdoor wood oil or weather paint once a year. That one coat keeps the finish looking well season after season.

Where a Backless Bench Works Best

The backless design makes this bench far more versatile than a standard garden seat. It works well as extra seating at a picnic table when you need more room. It also fits neatly against a garden wall or fence without pulling away from the surface.

Potting benches, raised deck areas, sheltered corners, and front porches all suit this style well. It’s a popular choice for commercial settings too — B&Bs, cafés with outdoor seating, school gardens, and community spaces all benefit from a bench that handles heavy use without a fuss.

Built for Irish Conditions

Donegal weather is tough on outdoor furniture. Rain, coastal wind, damp air, and the odd frost all take their toll. This bench is built with those conditions in mind. Leave it outside through every season and it will still feel solid come spring.
