Description

Why Indian Sandstone Needs a Dedicated Sealer

Indian sandstone is a stunning choice for patios and paths. However, it’s also highly porous. Left untreated, it soaks up water, stains and algae far too easily, and Ireland’s wet weather only speeds that process along. Stontex Indian Sandstone Sealer solves the problem at the source.

Seals and Enhances in One Coat

This is a water-based acrylic treatment designed specifically for Indian sandstone. It’s semi-topical, so it both seals the surface and enhances the look of your paving. The treatment lifts the natural veining in the stone, yet keeps an overall matt look rather than a glossy sheen. As a result, your patio stays looking natural while gaining real protection.

A Breathable Sealer for Irish Weather

Some sealers form a solid film over the stone. That can trap moisture inside the slab, which may lead to damage over time. Stontex Indian Sandstone Sealer is fully breathable instead. It lets moisture escape from the stone while still protecting the surface. In a climate as wet as ours, that’s an important difference.

How to Apply Indian Sandstone Sealer

First, clean the surface thoroughly with an outdoor cleaner, such as our All In One Outdoor Cleaner, and let it dry completely. Next, apply one good coat with a pump sprayer or roller. Then allow the sealer to penetrate for 15–20 minutes. Finally, wipe away any white residue with a cloth or dry roller before it dries on the surface.

Coverage

One litre covers roughly 7m², so a 5L bottle treats around 35m² in a single coat.

Keeping Your Sealed Sandstone Clean

Once your patio is sealed, upkeep is simple. Our Green to Clean spray-on cleaner keeps algae and moss at bay without scrubbing or power washing. Just spray it on a dry day and walk away.

FAQs

How much sealer do I need?
Measure your patio in square metres and divide by 35. That tells you how many 5L bottles you’ll need for one coat. For example, a 50m² patio needs two bottles.

Why is there a sealer made just for Indian sandstone?
Indian sandstone is very porous, so it needs a treatment built to handle that. This semi-topical sealer is a cost-effective way to both seal and enhance the stone, while still letting it breathe.

Why is there white residue on the stone the next day?
That white residue is excess sealer that didn’t soak into the stone. It appears when the surface isn’t wiped down within 20 minutes of application. To avoid it, always remove any excess with a cloth or dry roller during that window.

Will it make my patio look wet or shiny?
No. It brings out the natural veining in the stone, but it keeps an overall matt finish rather than a glossy, wet look.

How should I clean the stone once it’s sealed?
Use a spray-on algae cleaner such as Green to Clean. Simply spray it onto the dry surface on a dry day, then walk away. Within a few days, the organic stains lift, with no scrubbing or power washing needed.

Can I use this on other types of stone?
No. This sealer is formulated specifically for Indian sandstone paving. For other materials, contact us and we’ll recommend the right sealer for that surface.
